Love and War Budget Explodes To 400+ Crore As Shoot Days Extended For Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal Starrer

Mumbai, February 25 - Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming period romantic action drama Love and War has been making waves for its sheer scale and ambitious vision. Featuring a powerhouse trio of Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, the film is being positioned as one of the most anticipated Bollywood projects, with expectations riding high among trade and audiences alike. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to Variety India, Bhansali's ambition for the film is costing many extra crores in the production as the budget of Love and War has now reportedly shot up to a staggering 425 crore, significantly higher than its originally planned 350 crore. The spike in cost is said to be a direct result of the director's uncompromising quest for perfection, which is pushing the cost much higher than anticipated. Report further reveals that the 425 crore figure does not include the remuneration of the leading cast. Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal have all reportedly opted for backend profit-sharing deals, a strategy that reduces immediate production pressure while aligning the actors' earnings with the film's eventual box office performance. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Love and War has also seen a major extension in production timeline. The film was initially expected to be wrapped within 120 shooting days, but the schedule has now been stretched by nearly 50 more days. As things stand, the shoot is expected to conclude in approximately 175 days, reflecting the film's massive scale and Bhansali's meticulous filmmaking process. With soaring costs, an extended shoot, and one of the strongest star line-ups in recent years, Love and War is shaping up to be a true high-risk, high-reward cinematic spectacle. The makers have already recovered 200 crores from the non-theatrical revenues and are confident of making big at the box office when the film hits the big screens. It will be released in 2027. Yash Raj Films Rejects Netflix's Massive Offer To Keep Alia Bhatt's Alpha A Theatrical First Release

Mumbai, February 23 - Yash Raj Films has once again proved that big screen cinema remains the ultimate choice for its movies with Alia Bhatt's spy action thriller Alpha, which was postponed from December 2025 due to pending work. Alpha has been under immense pressure to deliver at the box office after the underperformance of the last two Spy Universe films from Yash Raj Films. Recently, it was reported that the studio was looking for an option to release the film directly on a digital platform, bypassing theatrical release. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) However, the latest development suggests there is no truth in the direct-to-digital release reports. According to the report by Variety India, Netflix offered a massive 215 crore deal to secure the exclusive digital release of Alpha, but Aditya Chopra-led studio rejected it to keep Alia Bhatt-starrer a theatrical first watch. In an official statement to Variety India, the YRF spokesperson explains, "Yash Raj Films will never put films from its theatrical slate directly to streaming. We are a studio that takes immense pride in making cinematic experiences, and that Alpha is a tentpole movie for the company". (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) This is not the first time YRF has rejected such big offers to sell its movies for direct-to-ott release. Earlier during the COVID days, the studio stood firm with the theatrical sector despite the uncertainty over big screen cinema, and it has once again shown the courage to do the same despite a lucrative offer. Directed by Shiv Rawail of The Railway Man, Alpha is the 7th film in the YRF Spy Universe. It also stars Sharvari Wagh and Bobby Deol in the key roles and is expected to have a cameo appearance of Hrithik Roshan's Kabir. The new release date is yet to be locked. Stay tuned...

Alia Bhatt's Alpha Might Skip Theatres for Direct-to-OTT Release: Analyzing YRF's Strategic Pivot

The landscape of the Yash Raj Films (YRF) Spy Universe appears to be undergoing a major tactical shift as 2026 unfolds. Recent industry reports suggest that the highly anticipated female-led spy thriller, Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, might bypass a traditional theatrical release in favor of a high-stakes direct-to-OTT premiere. This news comes as a surprise to fans who expected the film to be a massive cinematic event, but trade experts point toward a calculated move by Aditya Chopra to safeguard the franchise's future. The current strategic pivot appears rooted in a broader re-evaluation of solo female-led action films in the current theatrical market. The performance of Mardaani 3 served as a significant benchmark for gauging audience appetite for sheroes in the high-octane action space. However, the film's initial 4-day returns—netting ₹19.75 Cr in India and reaching a Worldwide total of ₹30.35 Cr (including ₹7.00 Cr from Overseas and an India Gross of ₹23.35 Cr)—suggest a challenging path for solo theatrical ventures. This data, coupled with ongoing production hurdles within the Spy Universe following War 2, indicates a shift toward a more cautious approach, placing Alpha under a period of strategic review. The release strategy for Alpha is currently a subject of significant trade observation. Following the recent box office trends for female-led action projects, reports have surfaced suggesting a potential shift from a traditional theatrical window to a direct-to-digital premiere. Such a move would allow the project to leverage high-value streaming partnerships, providing a secured revenue model in an increasingly volatile theatrical market. While production schedules within the YRF Spy Universe are frequently adjusted to align with broader franchise goals, the current focus remains on ensuring a massive global reach for Alia Bhatt's entry into the series. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})   While a theatrical experience is usually the hallmark of the Spy Universe, this shift highlights a broader industry trend where even A-list projects are choosing the digital route to ensure profitability. If Alpha does indeed move to OTT, it will join a growing list of premium Bollywood films that found massive success by skipping the big screen. Direct-to-OTT Success Stories: Female-Led & Spy Thrillers 1. Darlings (2022) - Netflix: Record-Breaking Debut Alia Bhatt's digital premiere garnered over 10 million watching hours globally in its opening weekend—the highest for any non-English Indian original at the time. It trended in the Top 10 across 16+ countries. 2. Mission Majnu (2023) - Netflix: High-Viewership Hit This espionage thriller proved the digital potential of the genre, garnering over 19 million viewing hours shortly after its release, indicating massive audience pull without a theatrical window. 3. Jaane Jaan (2023) - Netflix: Global #1 Ranking A major hit that ranked as the #1 Indian film globally on the platform by view hours within its first few weeks, cementing the viability of female-led mystery thrillers on OTT. 4. Khufiya (2023) - Netflix: Critical & Commercial Success Tabu’s female-led spy drama bypassed theaters to become a viral success, praised for its realistic portrayal of intelligence operations and high global engagement. 5. Chakda 'Xpress (Upcoming) - Netflix: Anticipated Blockbuster Following the trend, this Anushka Sharma starrer is positioned as a major direct-to-digital event, skipping the box office to maximize global reach. While Yash Raj Films has yet to release an official statement regarding the release format of Alpha, the buzz in trade circles suggests that the theatrical-only mandate for the Spy Universe is being relaxed. As market dynamics shift, Alpha could become the first film in the YRF Spy Universe to test the waters of a digital-first strategy, potentially redefining how big-budget franchises operate in the future.

Don 3 Update: Director Farhan Akhtar Puts The Film On Hold Amid Continuous Delay

Mumbai, January 29 - Director Farhan Akhtar's plans to reboot the iconic Don franchise continue to remain uncertain as the latest development suggests the Don 3 is unlikely to start rolling anytime soon. Ever since the movie was announced, it has been under scrutiny due to various reasons, and it seems the makers have now decided to move on. According to the report by Pinkvilla, director Farhan Akhtar has decided to momentarily step away from the much-talked-about actioner and shift his focus to his dream project, Jee Le Zaraa. It is said that the filmmaker doesn't want to rush on the casting front after Ranveer Singh exited it over other priorities. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The film was supposed to start rolling in early 2026 with Ranveer Singh stepping into the role of Don. However, the mega success of Dhurandhar made the actor rethink his strategy going forward, and in this process, he reportedly backed out from Don 3 as he doesn't want to do back-to-back gangster films. While the buzz around Don 3 continues after Ranveer Singh's exit, Farhan is in no hurry to rush the casting process and wants to ensure the iconic franchise gets the right face to carry the legacy forward. The casting of Don is the most important factor, and Akhtar wants to be absolutely sure about who steps into the role, which is a longer process. Meanwhile, the actor-filmmaker has reported reinitiated conversations around Katrina Kaif, Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra starrer Jee Le Zaraa. The script for the film is already locked, but the delay is because of logistical challenges and date alignments of all three lead actresses. If dates align, the film could finally go on floors in the second half of 2026. Stay tuned...

Jawan Leads the Charts: A Breakdown of the Top 5 Most Viewed Bollywood Films on Netflix

The way we measure Bollywood's success has changed. It is no longer just about domestic box office collections; global streaming views are now the true benchmark. Netflix's reach in over 190 countries has allowed Indian films to find massive audiences far beyond India. As of January 2026, the data shows that both big-budget action movies and small, story-driven films are performing exceptionally well globally. This proves that on the small screen, a great story is just as valuable as a big movie star. Leading the pack is Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan, which holds the crown with a staggering 33.7 million views. Directed by Atlee, the film benefited significantly from Netflix releasing an Extended Cut that wasn't seen in theaters, incentivizing even those who saw it on the big screen to watch it again. Its themes of social justice and high-scale action resonated deeply not just in India, but across Southeast Asia and the Middle East, cementing its position as a digital titan. Following closely is Ranbir Kapoor's Animal, with 31.4 million views. Despite its polarizing nature and massive runtime, the film's must-watch curiosity factor drove historic engagement levels on the platform, making it one of the most-discussed Indian titles in Netflix history. The middle of the chart showcases the power of female-led narratives and artistic excellence. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi remains a long-standing favorite with 31.14 million views. Alia Bhatt's transformative performance and Bhansali's visual opulence made it a cross-over hit, trending in the Top 10 lists of non-Indian markets like Thailand and Mexico for several weeks. Hot on its heels is the surprise package of the decade: Laapataa Ladies. Directed by Kiran Rao, this film proves that word-of-mouth is the strongest currency on OTT. With 31.1 million views, it nearly beat the biggest action stars, proving that global audiences are hungry for authentic, rooted Indian stories. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})   Rounding out the top five is the heist comedy Crew, starring Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kriti Sanon, which garnered 28.8 million views. The film's breezy nature and the combined star power of its leading ladies made it a perfect weekend watch for families worldwide. These figures represent a new era for Bollywood, where a film's life cycle is extended indefinitely through digital viewership, allowing Indian creators to compete directly with Hollywood's biggest franchises for global eyeballs. Love and War Release Date: Ranbir Kapoor-Starrer Pushed To 2027 Amid Production Delay

Mumbai, January 19 — Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-awaited magnum opus Love & War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, has reportedly been pushed to 2027, dealing a fresh blow to fans eagerly waiting for the film's theatrical release. Initially announced with a Christmas 2025 release window, Love and War has seen multiple shifts in its timeline. The film was later expected to arrive in March 2026, with industry buzz even pointing towards a possible release in August or late 2026. However, the latest reports suggest that the ambitious project will now miss 2026 entirely. According to Pinkvilla, Love and War has faced extended shooting schedules and elaborate production requirements, which have significantly pushed back timelines. Known for his grand visuals, detailed set designs, and emotionally layered storytelling, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is reportedly taking extra time to perfect key sequences. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Reportedly, the film's shoot will be wrapped by June this year, following which an extensive post-production phase, including editing, background score, and visual enhancements, will take several more months. Given the scale of the film, the makers are in no hurry to rush the release. With post-production expected to stretch into late 2026, Love and War is now being eyed for a theatrical release in early 2027. While no official date has been locked yet, reports suggest that the makers may opt for a holiday window such as Republic Day or Valentine's Day to maximise box-office potential. Love and War marks Sanjay Leela Bhansali's reunion with Ranbir Kapoor after Saawariya, while also bringing together Ranbir, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal in a powerful, dramatic setting for the first time. The film is said to revolve around intense emotions, romance, and conflict, staying true to Bhansali's signature cinematic style. Stay tuned...

Breaking Buzz: Shah Rukh Khan's King and Ranbir Kapoor's Love and War To Be Split Into Two Parts?

Mumbai, January 2 - The mega success of Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar may have a lot more to say than just its box office numbers, as the latest report suggests a massive change in the industry regarding two of the most-awaited films, which are reportedly going Dhurandhar way. Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar has proved to be a game-changer with over 1100 crores worldwide (so far), and its second part, which is scheduled to release on March 19, 2026, is easily one of the most hyped films in Indian cinema. Following this monstrous success, the buzz is that Shah Rukh Khan's King, along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War, might also go the same way. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to the report by Bollywood Hungama, there are very high-level discussions in Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's camp around the release of King and Love and War. It is said that both films are big-budget spectacles and have gone beyond what was on paper when it comes to the cost of production. The report suggests that both SRK and Bhansali are individually contemplating splitting their epics into two parts and releasing them in a gap of less than 6 months. While Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal-fronted film could arrive in August 2026 and January 2027, King is reportedly contemplating September 2026 and March 2027. While the idea is in preliminary discussions, it will only happen if both films have enough footage to be able to release in two parts, just like Dhurandhar. The final decision regarding this will be taken on the editing table, once the shoot is done. Stay tuned...
