Jayasuriya's Aadu 3 Confirmed for March 19 Release; FEUOK Grants Two Week Screening Guarantee
The highly anticipated Malayalam franchise entertainer Aadu 3 is set to stick to its original release date of March 19, 2026. Despite concerns regarding the current market situation in the Gulf—a primary territory for Malayalam cinema—the makers have confirmed the summer release following a significant agreement with the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK). As the summer movie season approaches, the Malayalam film industry is preparing for one of its most lucrative franchise releases. Directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas and starring Jayasuriya as the iconic character Shaji Pappan, Aadu 3 has been a focal point of trade discussions due to its clash with other major Pan-Indian releases, including Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar 2. In a notable development for the Kerala box office, the theater association FEUOK has reportedly stepped in to support the film's theatrical run. The association has agreed to screen Aadu 3 for a minimum of two weeks across its member cinemas. Crucially, this agreement is without any holdover terms. In standard theatrical practice, a film can be replaced if its collections fall below a certain percentage (holdover). By waiving this clause for the first 14 days, FEUOK is ensuring that Aadu 3 receives a stable, uninterrupted window to attract family audiences, regardless of the initial day-one performance or external competition. As per the reports by Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai the production house, Friday Film House, has decided to proceed with the March 19 date despite the ongoing gulf situation. While specific details of the regional challenges in the Middle East remain a concern for distributors, the domestic strength of the Aadu brand is expected to compensate for any potential overseas fluctuations. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The Aadu franchise has a unique history in the Malayalam film industry. While the first installment, Aadu Oru Bheegara Jeeviyanu (2015), had a modest theatrical run, it achieved cult status through DVD and digital platforms. The sequel, Aadu 2 (2017), went on to become a major commercial success. With Aadu 3, producer Vijay Babu and the team are aiming for a massive opening. The film also features the return of the popular ensemble cast, including Vinayakan, Sunny Wayne, and Saiju Kurup. The film's music, a major highlight of the previous installments, is again expected to play a vital role in its marketing. Releasing on March 19 puts Aadu 3 in direct competition with high-budget films across other languages. However, the guaranteed two-week window from Kerala exhibitors provides the film with the necessary legs to perform during the school vacation period. Analysts predict that if the film receives positive word-of-mouth, it could be one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of the 2026 summer season.
