Top 5 Indian Films With Longest Theatrical Runtime: Dhurandhar 2 Joins The Rank

Mumbai, March 12 - Indian cinema has often pushed the boundaries of storytelling with ambitious runtimes, especially when it comes to epic dramas and large-scale productions. Over the decades, several films have crossed the three-hour mark, but only a handful have gone far beyond that to become some of the longest theatrical releases in Indian film history. Over the last few years, several Indian films have crossed 3 hours of runtime, and a couple of them even went on to rank among the longest films ever. The upcoming sequel Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has reportedly joined this rare list with its massive runtime of nearly 4 hours, which is almost unheard of for an Indian title in recent times. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 1. LOC: Kargil (2003) J. P. Dutta's epic historical war film, based on the Kargil War, is the longest Indian film with a theatrical runtime of 4 hours and 15 minutes (255 minutes). Released in December 2023, the film featured a massive ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, and Sunil Shetty, among others. 2. Mera Naam Joker (1970) Directed and headlined by Raj Kapoor, the epic romantic drama film has gained a cult status over the years despite being a theatrical flop. It remained the longest Indian theatrical title for over 3 decades, with 4 hours and 8 minutes (248 minutes). The movie also starred Simi Garewal, Kseniya Ryabinkina, Padmini, Manoj Kumar, Rajendra Kumar, Dharmendra, and Dara Singh. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 3. Sangam (1964) One of the first films to be shot abroad in locations including London, Paris and Switzerland, Sangam is a romantic musical drama, directed and headlined by Raj Kapoor. With a theatrical runtime of 3 hours and 58 minutes (238 minutes), it was the longest film before Kapoor's Mera Naam Joker. It also featured Vyjayanthimala and Rajendra Kumar. 4. Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge (2026) Directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar 2 is the second part of the massive blockbuster Dhurandhar, which was released in December last year. Scheduled to hit the big screens on March 19, The Revenge reportedly carries a theatrical runtime of 3 hours and 49 minutes (229 minutes), which is mindboggling to think in today's time. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 5. Lagaan (2001) The Aamir Khan-fronted period sports drama had a runtime of 3 hours and 44 minutes (224 minutes). Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the film also featured Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne in key roles. It was reportedly the costliest Indian film at the time of its release. The film, which marks the big-screen debut of Agastya Nanda and features Dharmendra in a special role, has been generating steady interest ever since its release, especially because of its rooted storytelling and historical backdrop. For viewers waiting to watch the film from the comfort of their homes, Ikkis is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film was first made available on the platform as a rental option earlier this month, but from February 26, 2026, it has become part of the regular Prime subscription, allowing subscribers to stream it without any additional cost. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Produced by Maddock Films, Ikkis is a biographical war drama based on the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, one of the youngest recipients of India's Param Vir Chakra. Set against the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pak war, the film focuses on courage, sacrifice, and the human cost of conflict, presented in a restrained and realistic manner. Apart from Agastya Nanda in the lead role, Ikkis also stands out as one of the final on-screen appearances of Dharmendra, adding emotional weight to the narrative. With its OTT release now confirmed, the film is expected to find a wider audience and gain renewed attention among viewers who missed it during its theatrical run. Stay tuned...

Sriram Raghavan Wasn't Happy With Ikkis' Disclaimer Calling Pakistan Untrustworthy

Mumbai, February 22 - Filmmaker Sriram Raghavan has addressed the controversy surrounding the strongly worded disclaimer shown at the end of his war drama Ikkis. The disclaimer, which stated that Pakistan is "not trustworthy" despite the film portraying a humane Pakistani military officer, triggered intense debate on social media soon after the film's release. Speaking to The Wire in a recent conversation, Raghavan clarified that he was personally unhappy with the inclusion of the disclaimer. The director explained that the film itself aimed to highlight humanity amid conflict, especially through the character of a compassionate Pakistani brigadier. According to him, the added text diluted the emotional impact of the narrative and went against the tone he intended to leave audiences with at the end of the film. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The disclaimer at the end of Ikkis reads, "The humane treatment of Pakistani Brigadier K.M. Nisar is an exceptional case. Otherwise, our neighbouring country is not at all trustworthy. Pakistani forces have treated our soldiers and civilians with extreme cruelty and inhumanity, both in war and peacetime. They have blatantly violated the Geneva Conventions by torturing them on numerous occasions. Given the terrorist activities sponsored by Pakistan, as concerned citizens, we need to remain vigilant and prepared." (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Raghavan further revealed that the disclaimer was added at the insistence of producer Dinesh Vijan, and not by his own choice. Drawing parallels with past experiences, the director mentioned how post-credit additions can sometimes disrupt a film's closing sentiment, noting that he prefers letting viewers interpret the story without being guided by overt messaging. Starring Agastya Nanda alongside Dharmendra and Jaideep Ahlawat, Ikkis has largely been appreciated for its restrained storytelling and human-centric approach to war. However, the disclaimer controversy has overshadowed some of that praise, sparking discussions about creative freedom versus external pressures in politically sensitive films. Stay tuned...

Ikkis Box Office Day 1 Early Estimates: Maddock Films' War Biopic Takes A Good Opening

Mumbai, January 1 - The Bollywood industry might be in for a pleasant surprise to begin 2026 as Maddock Films' war biopic drama Ikkis, which happens to be legendary late Dharmendra's last film, has taken a good start at the domestic box office, exceeding expectations. New Year's Day, being a holiday, has always drawn footfalls, and Ikkis has taken the full advantage of it despite Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar continuing to dominate the box office. Starring Agastya Nanda in the title role, the film has scored an estimated 6.75-7.25 crores net on its opening day, which is better than what pre-sales suggested. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Ikkis expectedly had mid-pre-sales, which suggested 4-5 crores net start, but the holiday advantage and early positive reception have propelled the opening to much higher numbers. The opening of the film is actually better than Kartik Aaryan's Christmas release, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, which is a very good sign. Directed by Sriram Raghavan, Ikkis was originally scheduled to release on December 25, but was postponed to give it a genuine chance to perform amid the Dhurandhar wave. The decision to postpone the film seems to have paid off, and it is now all about building on the momentum. Stay tuned...

Maddock Films' Ikkis Postponed By A Week Amid Dhurandhar Storm

Mumbai, December 17 — Producer Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films has postponed the release of its much-anticipated war drama Ikkis by a week amid the extraordinary box office dominance of Ranveer Singh-fronted Dhurandhar. The film was originally scheduled to release on December 25, but will now arrive in cinemas in early January 2026. The move comes as Dhurandhar continues its historic run, pulling massive footfalls across domestic and international markets even in its second week. It is said that Aditya Dhar's directorial has left very little room for another patriotic film to perform optimally during the same period. Dhurandhar to Sholay:9 Films Where Villains Overshadowed the Film's protagonist

The hero fights, the hero wins, and the hero takes the glory. But every once in a while, an actor flips the script—not on paper, but in the hearts of the audience. The internet is currently in a meltdown over Dhurandhar, where history seems to be repeating itself in the most spectacular fashion. While Ranveer Singh brings his trademark energy to the screen, it is Akshaye Khanna who has walked away with the film's soul. Critics and audiences alike are calling Khanna's performance dark, electric, and terrifying, noting how his calculated madness has completely overshadowed the protagonist. It is a rare feat to outshine a powerhouse like Ranveer, but Akshaye's sinister portrayal is being hailed as a career-best, reminding us of the golden rule: sometimes, it's just more fun to be bad. 1. Dhurandhar (2025) Hero: Ranveer Singh | Villain: Akshaye Khanna In what critics are calling a career-defining turn, Akshaye Khanna has flipped the script completely. His dark, electric, and terrifying portrayal has generated massive online buzz, overshadowing Ranveer Singh's high-energy performance. Khanna's stillness, cold stare, and methodical dialogue delivery reportedly caused pin-drop silence in theatres. Many reviewers noted that every frame featuring him carried an unpredictable tension, making his character the film's psychological core. Status: Trending Blockbuster (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 2. Sholay (1975) Heroes: Amitabh Bachchan & Dharmendra | Villain: Amjad Khan (Gabbar Singh) Gabbar Singh remains the ultimate benchmark. Despite the star power of Jai and Veeru, Amjad Khan's maniacal laugh and olive greens became the face of the film. His dialogue, Kitne aadmi the?, is arguably more famous than the film itself. Gabbar's unpredictable cruelty made him terrifying even in scenes with minimal movement—an approach that influenced how Bollywood wrote villains for decades. Film historians widely consider Gabbar one of the greatest antagonists in Indian cinema. Box Office: ₹15 Crore (India Net) All-Time Blockbuster 3. Darr (1993) Hero: Sunny Deol | Villain: Shah Rukh Khan (Rahul Mehra) The movie that proved the audience loves a complex villain. SRK's stuttering K-K-K-Kiran garnered immense sympathy, leaving the muscular hero Sunny Deol feeling sidelined in the final edit. SRK's obsessive intensity, silent breakdowns, and unpredictable outbursts added layers rarely explored at the time. His performance not only overshadowed the hero but also marked the beginning of his rise as one of Bollywood's biggest stars, despite playing a negative role. Box Office: ₹10.91 Crore (India Net) Blockbuster 4. Padmaavat (2018) Hero: Shahid Kapoor | Villain: Ranveer Singh (Alauddin Khilji) Before he was overshadowed in Dhurandhar, Ranveer did the overshadowing here. His animalistic, unhinged energy as Khilji devoured the screen, making the noble silence of Shahid Kapoor's character fade into the background. Ranveer's physical transformation, bloodshot eyes, and predatory body language became the cultural talking point of 2018. Many critics argued that Khilji—not the titular queen—was the emotional high point of the narrative. Box Office: ₹302.15 Crore (India Net) Blockbuster (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 5. Mr. India (1987) Hero: Anil Kapoor | Villain: Amrish Puri (Mogambo) Anil Kapoor had the invisibility watch, but Amrish Puri had the screen presence. With his blonde wig and the iconic line Mogambo Khush Hua, the villain became a cultural phenomenon. Mogambo's eccentric lair, loyal army, and operatic style made him more memorable than even the film's special-effects-driven hero. Puri's booming voice and theatrical delivery created a villain children feared yet imitated with delight. Box Office: ₹5.40 Crore (India Net) Super Hit 6. Gupt: The Hidden Truth (1997) Hero: Bobby Deol | Villain: Kajol (Isha Diwan) The twist that shook the nation. Kajol played the sweet lover for two hours, only to reveal herself as a psychopath in the climax. Her range stunned audiences and stole the spotlight from Bobby Deol, earning her a historic Best Villain award. Kajol's transformation from gentle to murderous was so seamless that reviewers called it one of her finest performances. The film is still remembered primarily for her shocking reveal. Box Office: ₹18.11 Crore (India Net) Hit 7. Sangharsh (1999) Hero: Akshay Kumar | Villain: Ashutosh Rana (Lajja Shankar Pandey) While the film was an average grosser, the performance is legendary. Ashutosh Rana's portrayal of a religious fanatic was so terrifying—especially the scene where he screams with his eyes—that it completely eclipsed the lead pair. His unsettling calmness followed by violent rage left a lasting psychological impact. Over time, Rana's role has achieved cult status and is considered one of Bollywood's scariest performances ever. Box Office: ₹5.97 Crore (India Net) Average (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 8. Ek Villain (2014) Hero: Sidharth Malhotra | Villain: Riteish Deshmukh (Rakesh Mahadkar) Riteish Deshmukh, known for comedy, shocked everyone by playing a frustrated serial killer. His ordinary, middle-class demeanor made his crimes even more chilling, grabbing more attention than the brooding hero. Critics praised how Riteish used silence, guilt, and suppressed anger to create a villain who felt disturbingly real. His portrayal became the main reason for the film's massive word-of-mouth success. Box Office: ₹105.76 Crore (India Net) Super Hit 9. Shaan (1980) Heroes: Amitabh Bachchan & Shashi Kapoor | Villain: Kulbhushan Kharbanda (Shakaal) With a shark tank and a subterranean island, Shakaal was the coolest thing about this movie. Modeled after Bond villains, his sophisticated evil overshadowed the antics of the two lead superstars. Shakaal's bald look, calm voice, and eerie composure became his signature traits. To this day, he is remembered as one of Bollywood's most stylish antagonists, making the hero duo feel surprisingly ordinary. Box Office: ₹4.25 Crore (India Net) Average/ Hit

Ikkis: Dharmendra's final gift to cinema is a heartbreaking poem; Agastya Nanda's war drama sets Christmas 2025 release

In what promises to be one of the most emotional cinematic events of the year, the makers of the upcoming war drama Ikkis have unveiled a special tribute from the legendary Dharmendra. As the industry mourns the loss of the He-Man of Bollywood, his final silver-screen appearance has just been given a soul-stirring heartbeat—a poem penned and recited by the icon himself. The makers, Maddock Films, released a moving video featuring a poem written by Dharmendra titled "Aj bhi ji karda hai, pind apne nu jaavan" (My heart still yearns to go back to my village). The verses capture the veteran actor's deep connection to his roots, mirroring the film's theme of love, loss, and the longing for home. Directed by National Award-winner Sriram Raghavan, the film uses this poetry to underline the emotional father-son bond that forms the crux of the story. While the film serves as a tribute to a legend, it also marks the arrival of a new star. Agastya Nanda, grandson of Amitabh Bachchan, is making his theatrical debut in the challenging role of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal. Following his digital debut in The Archies, Agastya steps into the boots of India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee. The film chronicles the life of the 21-year-old war hero who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Battle of Basantar in the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Ikkis marks the highly anticipated reunion of the powerhouse duo, director Sriram Raghavan and producer Dinesh Vijan, who previously defined gritty cinema with their cult classic collaboration Badlapur (2015). Known for his mastery over suspense in hits like Andhadhun and Merry Christmas, Raghavan is now shifting gears to helm this biographical war drama, promising a narrative that is as deeply personal as it is patriotic. Adding weight to this vision is a stellar cast featuring Agastya Nanda alongside the legendary Dharmendra—who portrays the hero's father, M.L. Khetarpal—and the intense Jaideep Ahlawat in a pivotal role, setting the stage for a cinematic tour de force. Set against the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pak war, Ikkis chronicles the heroic life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal while delving into the poignant emotional journey of his family. The biographical drama is officially locked for a grand worldwide theatrical release this Christmas, hitting screens on Thursday, December 25, 2025. Beyond its patriotic core, the film has generated massive anticipation as a historic cinematic event, serving as the final cinematic chapter of the legendary Dharmendra’s illustrious 65-year career.

If you thought the box office was cooling down, think again. The final month of 2025 is gearing up to be a historic battlefield at the ticket windows. While the Christmas window is lucrative, it is also ruthless. This year, we aren't just looking at a double clash; we are staring at a five-way face-off involving Hollywood titans, Bollywood superstars, and Pan-India legends. With the release dates locked, here is everything you need to know about the contenders fighting for screen space this December. Avatar: Fire and Ash Release Date: December 19, 2025 Director: James Cameron Cast: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang. Technically arriving a week early, this is the shark in the water. Avatar: Fire and Ash (Avatar 3) will introduce the "Ash People" (Fire Na'vi), adding a darker tone to the franchise. The previous installment, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), was a monster in India, collecting approximately ₹ 391.4 Cr (India Net) and surpassing huge Bollywood blockbusters. With a head start of one week, it will likely hog the IMAX and premium format screens, making it a nightmare for the films releasing on Christmas Day. Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri Release Date: December 25, 2025 Director:Sameer Sanjay Vidwans Cast: Kartik Aaryan,Ananya Panday, Neena Gupta and Jackie Shroff his film marks a massive "homecoming" of sorts. It is Kartik Aaryan’s first major release with Dharma Productions (Karan Johar) after their highly publicized fallout years ago, making it a hot topic in the trade. Directed by Sameer Vidwans, who delivered the critical and commercial hit Satyaprem Ki Katha (2023) with Kartik, expectations are sky-high for this duo to recreate that magic The film boasts a potent "Combo Factor" that has the trade buzzing. Fans are thrilled to witness the big-screen reunion of Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, whose sparkling chemistry was a key driver in the success of their 2019 hit Pati Patni Aur Woh, which collected approximately ₹ 84.56 Cr (India Net). Adding to the credibility is the return of the director-actor duo, Sameer Vidwans and Kartik; Vidwans is known for extracting emotional depth from the actor, a quality that was widely appreciated in their previous collaboration, Satyaprem Ki Katha. Billed as a "Gen-Z rom-com with a 90s soul," the movie promises to deliver the nostalgic charm of a classic Dharma romance, further elevated by the chart-topping tunes of returning composers Vishal-Shekhar. This is the dark horse of the season. Directed by the master of thrillers, Sriram Raghavan (of Andhadhun fame), Ikkis is a biopic of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, the youngest Param Vir Chakra recipient. For Agastya Nanda, this is his big theatrical test after his debut in The Archies (Netflix). All eyes are on director Sriram Raghavan, whose previous masterpiece Andhadhun is a case study in box office longevity. The film started slow but raced to a massive ₹ 74.32 Cr India Net purely on word-of-mouth. However, its success wasn't limited to domestic borders; the thriller exploded globally, amassing a staggering ₹ 439.64 Cr Worldwide, driven by a colossal ₹ 344.54 Cr from Overseas markets (with a historic run in China). If Ikkis delivers similar content-driven power, it could be the "Jerry Maguire" of this season—starting small but scoring big in the long run. Vrusshabha Release Date: December 25, 2025 Director:Nanda Kishore Cast: Mohanlal,Zahrah S Khan, Shanaya Kapoor,Roshan Meka Billed as an "Epical Action Entertainer," Vrusshabha is one of the most ambitious projects coming out of the Malayalam industry but shot as a proper Pan-India film.Mohanlal is a legend. Adding to the lineup is the young and energetic Roshan Meka (known for Pelli SandaD), whose dynamic with Mohanlal is said to be the emotional core of the film. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Anaconda Release Date: December 25, 2025 Director:Tom Gormican Cast: Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior, and Selton Mello This isn't your average creature feature—it is a star-studded, meta-comedic reimagining of the 1997 cult classic. Directed by Tom Gormican, who gave us the critically acclaimed The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, this version promises a fresh twist on the genre. The story reportedly follows a group of friends facing mid-life crises who head to the rainforest to remake their favorite movie, only to find themselves hunted by giant snakes for real. With Godzilla and Kong movies performing exceptionally well in India recently collecting ₹ 106.99 Cr (India Nett), a high-budget snake disaster movie has a built-in audience in the mass centers. The battle lines are drawn. With James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash arriving early to dominate premium formats, the four Christmas Day releases face a massive challenge to secure screens and footfalls. However, history has proven that multiple films can coexist if the content is strong. Will Kartik Aaryan’s charm and Sriram Raghavan’s storytelling hold the fort against the Hollywood tsunami? Or will Mohanlal’s mass appeal surprise everyone? One thing is certain: The Box Office is about to witness fireworks like never before.
